On the next American Black Journal,
A new exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum focuses on the Negro Leagues‘ professional baseball team, the Detroit Stars. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the team, which featured legendary outfielder, Norman “Turkey” Stearnes. Stephen talks with Stearne’s daughter, Joyce, and members of the Detroit Black Historic Sites Committee, Detroit Historical Society, and Friends of Historic Hamtramck Stadium, where the Detroit Stars played ball. Plus, a crowdfunding campaign is in the homestretch for the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. We’ll get an update on the fundraiser from the organization’s CEO.
