On the next American Black Journal,

The Detroit Public Schools Community District is making plans to reopen schools in the fall. Stephen Henderson talks with Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti about the changes being put in place to keep students, teachers and staff healthy and safe in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Plus, Dr. Vitti offers his personal perspective on the issues that have led to the global protests against systemic racism.  And, master storyteller Satori Shakoor, founder of The Secret Society of Twisted Storytellers, talks about the life-changing stories and messages coming out of the pandemic and George Floyd protests. Also, we’ll have a powerful performance of the Negro National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” by the Sphinx Organization’s Exigence Vocal Ensemble.
