Tonight on One Detroit:

  • Omari Rush: CultureSource and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan are partnering up along with funders to distribute an expected half a million dollars starting in mid-May. They’re sorting through the applications now from arts and culture originations across the area. CultureSource’s Omari Rush gets us up to speed with his 1:1 interview.
  • Shannon Cason: Cason’s podcast Homemade Stories is probably more well known nationally than locally. He’s a native Detroiter but received traction in Chicago several years ago, connecting with WBEZ (home of This American Life) and another native Michigander Glynn Washington, who hosts the nationally renowned Snap Judgment program on public radio (also a big podcast). He’s a master of what he calls brutally honest storytelling – many of his stories provide insights about growing up, living in Detroit – he reveals parts of himself most others dare not. But he encourages people to step out of their comfort zones, all in the quest of better stories.
  • Pictures From a Pandemic: Alex Forrer is a professional photographer. Alex is documenting the pandemic through pictures by capturing quiet streets and neighborhoods in Detroit and the Metro Detroit area.
  • Devin Scillian: Devin Scillian is the evening anchor at WDIV (Channel 4). While we all know him as a journalist, he’s also a great musician. Devin is bringing joy to the digital community by posting a song a day on Facebook.
  • Performance: Meet, Alex Way. Alex was recognized as the 2018 Kresge Artist Fellow. She began playing violin at 12 years old and singing professionally at 19. She has performed with internationally-acclaimed artists, including Marcus Belgrave, Al McKenzie, and Chinelo Amen-Ra. Alex released her first single, “C.N.L.L. (Cry Now Laugh Later),” in 2015 and her first EP, “Phases,” in 2016. Since then, she has performed in numerous local and national venues and festivals.
