It’s the first weekend of spring and there’s plenty to do in and around Detroit. Movie lovers can spend their weekend at the Greater Farmington Film Festival, while those who love the outdoors can check out Lumberjack Day, and music fans can head to the Motor City Blues Festival.

  • The Greater Farmington Film Festival takes place through Sunday, March 24 at various locations throughout Farmington and Farmington Hills. 
  • The Ann Arbor Hands-on Museum hosts its Scientific Sip & Sketch Friday, March 22 for adults 21+ to enjoy their favorite drink while making a letterpress bookmark. 
  • The Outdoor Adventure Center in Detroit puts on Lumberjack Day Saturday, March 23, which includes the lumberjack pancake run, a maple syrup infusion and more.  
  • The Motor City Blues Festival takes place Saturday, March 23 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, featuring artists Tucka, King George, Pokey Bear, Theodis Ealey, J-Wonn and West Love.  
  • The War Memorial in Grosse Pointe Farms celebrates Easter early with its Bunny Brunch and Helicopter Egg Drop Sunday, March 24 featuring a visit from the Easter Bunny and an egg hunt.  
  • The annual Marche du Nain Rouge returns to Midtown Detroit Sunday, March 24 for a parade of costumes, floats, marching bands and krewes from all corners of the city. 
  • The Maybury State Park hosts a Winter Night Hike Sunday, March 24 for a chance to check out the park at night and interact with some of the park’s nocturnal residents. 
  • The Ringwald Theater inside Affirmations in Ferndale presents a production of “Beautiful Thing” by Jonathan Harvey on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays through April 1.
