Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z — each generation has its unique perspectives, questions, and aspirations around the future of work and what’s needed to make Michigan the place for them to live, work, and play. With Michigan’s population on the decline, looking at each generation’s impact on the state’s economy becomes paramount to seeing how policymakers and other stakeholders can turn the population around.
Since January 2023, One Detroit has explored the impact each generation has on the state’s workforce, economy, and overall prosperity. We’ve looked at the challenges baby boomers face in today’s workforce and the knowledge gaps they may leave behind when they retire, and at Generation X, the next generation of leaders who have taken up the mantle to prepare people for the jobs that don’t exist yet.
We didn’t forget about the young professionals either. As millennials make their way up the work chain, we examined whether the state has the attractions and opportunities to attract the generation to stay here, and we talked with three members of Gen Z about their futures and what they expect when they enter the workforce after graduation.
Join One Detroit Producer and Future of Work host, Will Glover, on June 21 at noon for “From Boomers to Zoomers: The Generational Impact on the Workforce” to delve into the in-depth conversations we’ve convened about each generation’s outlook on the future and how each has, and continues to, impact Michigan’s workforce.
This town hall continues One Detroit’s cumulative, ongoing conversation involving the future of work and workforce development in Michigan. Livestream this town hall on One Detroit’s Facebook page, YouTube and at the top of this page.
