Thursday on One Detroit:

  • Outlook for Food Insecure Families: Christy talks with Dr. Phillip Knight, Executive Director of the Food Bank Association of MI, about the strain the 3,000 food pantries around the state are seeing since the onset of the pandemic.
  • Food Delivery Robots in Ann Arbor: The co-founders of U-M startup, Refraction AI, have been working to meet the challenges of the pandemic when it comes to contactless food delivery. Nolan Finley talks with Matthew Johnson-Roberson and Ram Vasudevan about the technology behind their autonomous REV-1 and the kinds of applications it could have in the future.
  • Census Push: Stephen Henderson catches up with Wayne County Executive, Warren Evans, to talk about the importance of an accurate census count amidst the pandemic, as well as Wayne County’s evolving response to COVID-19 as well as how the budget has been impacted.
  • #MPCMoments: This week, One Detroit would have been on Mackinac Island to cover the Mackinac Policy Conference. This would be the 10th year that DPTV brought the entire conference to broadcast and online so everyone could see and be a part of the big discussions that happen every year. Since COVID-19 changed all that, the Detroit Regional Chamber put together a week’s worth of virtual conversations.
Christy talks with Detroit Regional Chamber Pres. and CEO, Sandy Baruah, to talk about the serious situation our region finds itself in now and if there will be a policy conference in the future.
  • Salad Days For An Indoor Farm: Planted Detroit was growing greens and micro-greens for higher end restaurants a couple months ago. That market faded away quickly, but the hydroponic farmers pivoted into another business—making salads and bringing them directly to customers. One Detroit’s Bill Kubota updates a story we did last year.
