Watch Party for “The Black Church”
Hosted by Stephen Henderson of American Black Journal
February 1, 2021
At our virtual watch party event, we explored and honored the significance and history of the Black church in Detroit – in connection with the national premiere of the new PBS series The Black Church by noted historian Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
We got a sneak preview of the series, along with highlights from an exclusive interview with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Following the viewings, we discussed local history and the importance of the Black Church to the Detroit community with a group of esteemed panelists, including:
- Rev. Kenita Harris, Detroit Bible Tabernacle
- Freda Sampson, President, Frederick G. Sampson Foundation
- Dr. Terri Laws, Professor of African and African-American Studies and Religious Studies, U-M Dearborn

For some reason I could not find a registration link or other for the Watch Party. What happened to it? I heard about it on Michigan Radio, and so am not a DPTV member. Was that my problem? Is there another way watch a recording of this + introductory and post presentations/discussions? Thank you.
