David Turnley is considered by many to be one of the best documentary photographers working today. Working at the Detroit Free Press for almost 20 years, he is a winner of the Pulitzer Prize, two World Press Photos of the Year, and the Robert Capa Award for Courage, and has photographed the human condition in some 75 countries around the world.

He’s also an associate professor at U-M’s School of Art and Design, and when the pandemic hit, and students were being moved off campus, he asked them to document life during COVID-19. He shares what he observes in their work with Christy McDonald.
