Born in a small city in China in 1974, Siyan immigrated to the United States in 1985. Like all immigrants of the past, her parents left China with the belief that there are better opportunities for themselves and their children in the United States. Her parents did not envision a better life to be possible being an artist. But Siyan is an artist.
Siyan’s paintings explore the human experience with a focus on issues facing women, the working poor, elderly, and homeless. Ultimately, she asks, “what is justice?” and “what is happiness?” Please join us in the celebration of AAPI heritage month through art and conversations with Chinese American painter Siyan Wong.
