One Detroit Weekend: April 19, 2024

Earth Day is coming up this weekend and there are a few ways to celebrate, including the Earth Day Fest at the Ypsilanti Farmers Market or an Earth Day Celebration at The War Memorial. There’s also a new exhibit on the history of Detroit’s Jewish community at the Detroit Historical Museum. Outdoor Adventure Center brings Michigan’s nature and recreation to Detroit

Virtual kayaking, snowmobiling, ATVing and more can be found at The Outdoor Adventure Center, which is run by the Department of Natural Resources. Birdie’s Bookmobile spreads the joy of reading to Detroit children

Birdie’s Bookmobile hopes to inspire the next generation of readers. Launched in 2022, the literacy organization provides hundreds of books to schools, after-school programs and nonprofits across Detroit. Since Birdie’s Bookmobile was born, it has distributed more than 16,000 books. One Detroit and BridgeDetroit contributor Eleanore Catolico has the story.
